The main components of a water-cooled air compressor include a drive motor, a main unit with a positive and negative rotor, an oil-gas separator, an oil filter, a minimum pressure valve, an intake load reduction valve, a safety valve, a water-cooled cooler, an oil cooler, etc. The structural difference from air-cooled air compressors is the water-cooled cooler and oil cooler.
 
The diagram shows the process flow of a water-cooled compressor system.
 
Most equipment manufacturers require that the circulating cooling water for compressed air units be kept clean and free of impurities, with a pressure not lower than 0.2 MPa, a temperature difference of around 10 ℃ between the inlet and outlet, and softened.
 
The cooling water of the water cooling system of the compressor unit is required to not corrode the cooling device and pipelines, but also to prevent the formation of scale on the surface of the cooling device, which affects the cooling effect. The content of mechanical impurities and organic matter in the water should also be limited to prevent sedimentation and blockage of the water circuit, causing water interruption, and raising the temperature of the unit to the point of spontaneous combustion of oil vapor, resulting in accidents such as compressed air system explosion, equipment and pipeline damage, and personnel injury.

Therefore, in order to ensure the safe operation of the unit, improve its working efficiency, and reduce energy consumption, the following regulations are made for suspended solids, pH value, temporary hardness, organic matter, oil content, and inlet and outlet water temperature in the cooling water:
 
(1) Non acidic water with a pH value between 6.5 and 9.
 
(2) The suspended solids content is generally not greater than 25mg/L.
 
(3) The organic content is generally not greater than 25mg/L.
 
(4) The carbonate hardness of water is generally not greater than 10mgN/L.
 
(5) The oil content is generally not greater than 5mg/L.
 
(6) The water temperature entering the unit generally does not exceed 30 ℃, and the short-term inlet water temperature in hot areas does not exceed 35 ℃.
